Official Opening of Library

27 April 2021

Thank you to Mr Adam Crouch MP who was our special guest to celebrate the completion of the Library upgrade process.

Five years ago this Library project was selected as Green Point’s next extensive capital works upgrade. A successful school is one that always looks to the future and provides its students with quality resources and facilities. Wanting our Library to reflect that excellence we surveyed the community, our students, staff and families to find out what they wanted the Library to be. The most common words were: inviting, comfortable, well resourced, collaborative and to inspire learning. We wanted to create a space where Secondary students would be able to study and collaborate effectively.

In 2017 the heads of school and myself visited other school libraries to make a storyboard of what we would like to see in our new Library space. Our first decision was to separate the Primary and Secondary space more clearly.

In 2018 we started the process of updating and sorting the collection. All 55, 000 Library books were sorted over 15 months. Our Primary, middle school & senior library collections were separated into Primary and Secondary and the fiction texts were put in genres to simplify personal reading selection.

In 2019 we looked at all the information we had gathered over many years and chose a company, ABAX Kingfisher, to bring all of our ideas together. Before he even started at Green Point officially, Phillip Nash, partnered with us throughout this process. He attended key meetings and brought a wealth of experience to the project having just completed a Library upgrade in Jakarta.

Stage 1- the main floor of the Library was completed in January 2020.
Stage 2- the mezannine level and meeting rooms were completed in January 2021.

Prior to our upgrade an average of 250 students would visit the Library each day, 75-80% of which were Primary students. Since completion over 500 students visit the Library each day and Secondary students are 60% of the users. Students want to study here, they love this space and that is our greatest achievement. Student borrowing also increased. Our Secondary borrowing has almost doubled from 2018-2020. We are thankful that this new Library space is building and strengthening community and supporting student learning.

A thank you to Phil Magann and his team at ABAX Kingfisher, for their design and layout suggestions and the amazing furniture they delivered. ABAX have produced a  to watch how the Library was transformed.

Thank you to our executive and the board for prioritising this important work and for their commitment and direction throughout the process. We are so blessed to have this amazing Library for our school community to use.

¶¶ÒõÈÈÃÅ would like to thank the Library staff for all their hard work over a number of years to make our Library relevant and accessible for both staff and students. We are very grateful to all involved, and to our God for inspiring and sustaining us throughout the process.
